- University of Edinburgh has a requirement for a high-speed liquid cooled CNC controlled spinning disc saw machine to undertake precision cuts of various materials, advanced carbon fibre in particular.The objective is to carry out precision cuts with minimum edge abrasion/fraying. The users have ruled out laser, water-jet and milling as appropriate options for the requirement based on tests because these options cause too much edge abrasion for the required research purposes; as such this requirement is specifically for a spinning-disc saw.The award will be for the machine; installation and commissioning and initial pre-user testing; and manufacturers labour and parts warranty for 1 year. It is anticipated that services and spares with awarded supplier may be extended to a period of 5 years (6-year total agreement length).The Bidder and their machine should fulfil the following minimum specification;Machine-Saw must be capable of a potential rotation speed of 4500rpm-Spindle power of at least 2kW-Panel size up to 600mm to 600mm with a cut depth of 20mm-Should have a cooling system to keep workpiece at a safe temperature and avoid searing/burning. Fluid cooling/misting using water or coolant is assumed but others will be considered.
